Ah, but Portland has Powell’s Books, the Crystal Ballroom and some pretty nice views at night. Reading through some of the 325 comments the video has received so far, there’s one person who’s a resident on the other side of the street, indicating that it’s a particularly steep slope, even for pedestrians, so skidding down like that in snow is to be expected, but that first driver… how many more people could you hit and still be leaning on the bloody accelerator pedal?
Portland itself is like a Seattle or Vancouver in the frequency of how unusual the snow is, but you don’t have to get too far out of Portland, really, to encounter snow. You can’t make it over the seemingly gentle slopes of the Cascades for a large part of the year without chains.
Who knows who the panicky driver was. Lots of accusations of Californians (saw a license plate down there saying “Don’t Californicate Oregon"), but I guess we just won’t know. Well, unless someone does some amazing sleuthing.
