Kinjo has been our favorite sushi/Japanese restaurant ever since it opened. We called it "Tim Horton's Sushi" for the longest time, because it was ages before they finally sandblasted the old Tim Hortons sign silhouette off of it *LOL*

Ritchie Annand

It's bizarre. January was perhaps our most "relaxing" month out of the entirety of Axel's life so far :)

It's going to be bizarre as Axel gets even more mobile. He loves cables and plants, and that's just going to be more dangerous. He loves watching (and interfering with, if he can!) our brushing of our teeth - I wonder if he will like using his own toothpaste.

It's bizarre to see the maltese put himself in harm's way. I think you're right; he's got this figured as a way to get attention.

He's a pretty charming child so far. I think we can take full credit for that ;)

I love those baby signs; I wish they would make more.

That was a lovely response you made, Dena, and I know that the original e-mail that spawned it off did not contain enough information to determine what they were trying to accomplish by sending it.

I am glad that it did turn out to be a more 'innocent' posting, especially in light of the Christmastime ribbing that some relatives can do without realizing that church for the nonbeliever is hypocritical, in particular in hymn-singing.

The views that this one relative holds are amongst the most humanistic, thank goodness. Believing that it's the same god no matter what the religion and using that as a point of unity with other religions is also something you get from the most moderate of Islam and Judaism. (I wonder how it would extend to Buddhism? :) It would probably also earn this relative the most horrid of tongue-lashings from Southern Baptists. I wonder if they have managed to avoid encountering the non-moderate believer?

I'm pretty damned proud of your measured and thoughtful response, my dear. It's just another reason that I think you're so cool :)

Enny - You still can :)

Adam - It's true that adamantium (that's got to be your favourite metal, I say) claws are an optional extra. We do, however, live in Alberta, which has great adamantium facilities, from what I remember on some documentary or another!

So no X-Men-like incarnations! (No tails, no horns, no flippers or fins.)
I'm afraid the adamantium claws are an optional extra.

I'm glad I got to go to this ultrasound. That was neat. If it's an alien baby, it's not obviously so.

The moving ultrasound images that you experience watching the screen as the technician moves the probe and varies the controls makes the stills absolutely pale by comparison.

There are disturbing parts where you get "zombie baby" images, which is just a result of the face not being flat, so you get a bit of skull intersection with the rest of your baby picture. Creepy!

It was funny how the tech was trying to "annoy" the baby into flipping over or opening its fists, but the baby was having none of it :)

Looking forward to seeing Squirty when he joins us air-breathers for the first time :)

Dena has been regaling me with what ought to be happening to the little Dena-Ritchie-combo clump of cells each day. A couple of days ago, I believe, was the spot where the blastula forks such that it now has a head/butt, or as Dena more aptly puts it, "knows its head from its ass".

I think we need the web site Dena's getting this information from :)

and oh yes, fingernails will grow so you can opt for small fingernail clippers or some people put mittens on the babies so that they don't accidentally scratch themselves.

I've got to admit, this is pretty neat. We'd heard all sorts of stories about couples trying for 18 months or 4 years, and you wonder whether you will follow the same track. You never know how it's going to turn out until it happens, of course! We held off because we didn't want a baby picking up African head worm encephalopathy or anything, so we didn't take terribly long.

Dena will be happy that I'll have a little human creature that I can run around and burn off any stir-craziness with. I'm looking forward to seeing what a combination of the two of us will bring.

I'm crossing my fingers that baby temperament is inherited, at least somewhat. We were both good babies ourselves. Oh, our babies will have years to be cute until puberty.

Dena just informs me that one site she's looking at recommends tiny nail clippers, because when the baby comes out, its nails may have been growing in utero.

Lowell for a girl? Loëlle? :)

We have some names picked out, though. It just wouldn't be fair to all the people we know if we used only some of their names. However, Armandolowelladamdalekeithbidishacraigennienrobin has a nice ring to it.
