Want to see why I'm moving away from Windows? OSX may not be better in the long run, but at least so far it's not moving in this direction.

It’s been hard to ascertain whether we’re gaining anything in exchange for… well, even just the paltry upgrades to Windows Media Player so far. It already seems to check with content providers for many things.

It’s a business model, like so many other things. Microsoft’s playing ball with these people, but the ultimate arbiter is going to be the profits of the media companies themselves. The content administration and the public backlash will hurt their bottom and top line. I’m sure they’ll find other things to blame (people getting around the new protections? people getting outside more?)

These folks just seem to think that the original DivX/Disney experiment was the right way to go, and the public just need to be tricked into it somehow.

Not that it will make much difference, but I’ll vote with my wallet. Their crappy-ass movies will not be worth shelling out for a new DRM-enabled television, sound system, or freaking eardrums.

"Ready, Aye, Ready" was a slogan used by Canadian politicians to indicate Canada's willingness to assist the British Empire in any conflict. It remains in use as a motto for some of the Canadian military. It has almost nothing to do with the content of this blog.
