More McCain Tiremarks

What the hell happened to McCain? He has pulled such a hard 180° that the undercarriage has scattered bits for miles.

Now's he on the attack against Roe versus Wade?!

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Republican presidential candidate John McCain, looking to improve his standing with the party’s conservative voters, said Sunday the court decision that legalized abortion should be overturned.

“I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned,” the Arizona senator told about 800 people in South Carolina, one of the early voting states.

You, sir, are a charlatan, and I'm ashamed for ever having respected you. Seriously.

McCain is trying to build support among conservatives after a recent rebuke from Christian leader James Dobson, who said he wouldn’t back McCain’s presidential bid. Conservatives question McCain’s opposition to a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. He opposes same-sex marriage, but says it should be regulated by the states.

Oh yes, Dobson. Belly up to that tit, why don't you?

McCain hasn’t changed; your perception of him has. The generous press coverage he’s had for years can only go so far in painting him other than he is.

Easy enough to say in retrospect, but truth be told, I still don’t know what he is now. Are his now-stated positions actually positions that he’s held all along, or is he merely an opportunistic flip-flopper who’s trying to get back in bed with the people that he’s been insulting all this time.

…and he did insult them. He had a bit of sympathy to start with from having undergone not just PoW status, but having undergone that wonderful rough Rove smear campaign in the 2000 primary. He referred to Robertson and Falwell as “agents of intolerance", and supported campaign finance reform and stem cell research, and until about a year ago seemed very sensible and certainly more progressive for a conservative.

That public image still lingers.

As to what we’re seeing now, how much is pandering, how much is him?

The McCain Makeover is an interesting article all about the subject… and even it doesn’t quite clear things up.
